When Liana arrived for her first meeting with Workwise it...
Read more about LianaMolly* was in her 30s and experiencing anxiety and depression. When she was introduced to Workwise in 2021, she was anxious about starting her employment journey, having been out of the workforce for some time and unsure what career path she wanted to take.
What she did know was that she wanted to be a role model for her son, and she wanted to do something meaningful.
The Workwise employment consultant worked with Molly to explore a range of roles that matched her passions and skills. Community Support Worker was at the top of the list. Molly was hesitant to explore the role because she did not feel confident to study or meet new people – her routine was important to her, and she felt it would be a challenge to adjust.
Workwise helped her to explore different pathways and set some short- and long-term goals that would help towards her career of choice. Workwise also supported Molly to meet a tutor at a training academy that provided information about a course she was interested in and showed her around the building.
This helped Molly feel more at ease and she decided to enrol in the Health and Wellbeing Level 2 certificate. She found that after the first week of attending her course she could fit right in with the other students. Molly has made lifelong friends.
Molly reached out to Workwise again in 2022 after completing her qualification, asking for support with employment as a Community Support Worker. She had grown more confident and became more proactive and independent in her job search process.
She received support with interview skills, updating her CV and to complete job applications. After only a few weeks, Molly was offered a role with a large New Zealand health and disability organisation as a Community Support Worker and has also enrolled part-time in a Health and Wellbeing Level 4 certificate with a training academy.
She is enjoying her role and feels it’s just what she needs. Molly has now been discharged from her mental health service after 10 years and is enjoying her new work-life balance.
Speaking about the support she received from her employment consultant, she said: “Thank you for helping me find the right path in my life and for all your support and direction to where I am today. You really helped me a lot – keep up the great service you give to people like me.”
